During a Japanese history class in high school, something strange happened. The history lesson that day was a drag, and I was feeling super drowsy, fighting off sleep because I knew the teacher would erase the blackboard right away, so I had to take notes. Then, I suddenly realized I must have dozed off for a few seconds. In my notebook were those shaky, scrawled letters you only get when you're half-asleep. Thinking, "Oh crap, I fell asleep," I went to continue taking my notes, but when I looked down, I was shocked. It was completely different from what was written on the blackboard. I don't remember all the details, but somewhere around the Sengoku (Warring States) period, my notebook had a history written in it that was completely different from what's in the textbooks. It felt like an alternate history. It read something like: "The facts were not actually like this. It has been passed down slightly differently to the present era..." and so on. Of course, since I was asleep, my hand couldn't have just been writing on its own, and I hadn't even been dreaming about anything like that. The content felt so eerie that I erased it immediately. Thinking back on it now, I wish I had just left it as it was. It would have made a great joke.
It's been about ten years since then, so I'm really sorry that my memory is so vague. If I recall correctly, the lesson was probably about Tokugawa Ieyasu or Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It went something like: "X (unknown person) was driven from power due to the scheme of Y (also forgot), but in reality, it was caused by Z (omitted below). However, this was not made public, and the modern era of later generations has come to believe the rumor that it was X's scheme. Because of this incident, not a few people quietly left this world or were driven out of the capital." I'm not sure if these minor differences affect the world today, but it is certain that a slightly different history had been recorded. That's roughly how it went. I'm so sorry, my memory is really hazy... I'm bad at history, so I struggle with the names of historical figures... Though I am confident it was around the Sengoku period.
Ah, sorry, I forgot to mention this, but I'm certain Oda Nobunaga didn't appear in it. I don't remember if Akechi Mitsuhide was there or not... but I'm sure it wasn't anyone that famous. I remember thinking to myself while reading the notebook, "Who the hell is that?!"
While I wasn't looking for a bit, a lot of theories popped up... X and Y were people who appear in textbooks, but I don't think Z was a common historical figure. Well, that's just from my perspective, though... maybe they actually are famous people. I don't really know, I'm sorry... Ah, I really should have kept it... The reason I erased it instantly was because the name of person Z, whom I had never even heard of, was written there, and it creeped me out. At the time, rather than the name itself, I was so shocked and panicked by the fact that I had written a whole sentence while asleep... It's fun seeing everyone come up with their own theories, though. Ever since I posted about it, I've started wondering what kind of world we'd be living in right now if it were true. Even though I'd almost completely forgotten about it until I saw this thread...
