Sorry to interrupt the flow, but I just got home and I'm so pissed off I had to post. This is a story I heard from an acquaintance named A.
A has a childhood friend named B, and I’ve gone out for drinks with them a few times. B is an amazing person—super considerate, gorgeous, and has a kind of effortless charm and elegance. You could tell she was really popular.
The problem was, she had terrible luck with men and had been through a lot of grief because of it. The worst part was when she was stalked twice in a row. She went to the police station over and over, but some callous officer told her, "Aren't you leading them on?"
Normally, someone would get angry, but B was already worn down physically and emotionally, so she took it to heart. She blamed herself, thinking, "It's my fault for leaving an opening," and started having a nervous breakdown.
B was never the type to flirt, and she smoothly brushed off advances from guys she wasn't interested in. If there was any reason for her misfortunes, it was just that she was too kind. Whenever someone was left out, she’d go out of her way to include them in the conversation, and "thank you" was her catchphrase—she always showed appreciation to those around her.
Some idiots took advantage of that kindness or misunderstood it, and because she was attractive enough to draw obsessive attention, that's where things went wrong, I guess.
B blamed herself over and over. She tormented herself so much that she felt like every bad thing in the world was her fault, and she fell into a deep depression. Her body broke down and she quit her job. Now she can't even step outside her house, suffers from severe androphobia, and can't even go near her own father.
Sometimes she tries to commit suicide, crying over and over, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
Since B ended up like this, it leaves a really bad taste in my mouth that I couldn't do anything to help. But what's worse is that A goes around telling everyone about it. And she looks like she's having the time of her life—truly living by the saying "other people's misfortune is sweet."
I asked her, "Aren't you B's best friend? How do you think B would feel if you went around spreading this?" And A replied, "We went all the way out there in a large group to visit her and tried to cheer her up, but she just cried and kicked us out. B is the one who's being terrible."
When I dug deeper, I found out that back when B was on the verge of a breakdown, A had pretended to be willing to listen to her problems while actually making remarks that drove her further into a corner.
I got sick to my stomach and cut ties with A. It's been a while since then, but apparently, A is still making a joke out of B. By writing this here, I'm just as bad as A, but I just wanted to vent to people who don't know A or B. Sorry.
I just feel so terrible for B... On top of having a toxic environment around her, she's the kind of person who is too kind and keeps all her struggles bottled up inside... Don't worry about that scum A. People like that will get what's coming to them someday. Without a doubt. It's called karma. I really hope B gets better soon and recovers her energy.
I went out to buy some alcohol. Thanks for replying in the middle of the night. A buddy of mine once said that when something awful happened to him, venting on 2ch helped him calm down, and it's true.
I have a confession to make. I was one of the guys who had a crush on B. B had her guard up, noticed how I felt, and wouldn't give me her phone number or email address. I figured I'd take it easy and hope we could get closer over time.
If I had known, could I have done something? I was pissed off at A, but that was it—in the end, I didn't take any action. I didn't even know until today that the woman I loved had her funeral. A guy like me leaves the worst taste in my mouth of all.
Ah, I'm not calm at all. I didn't even use line breaks. I'm going to drink until I pass out. If you don't mind, everyone reading this, please take a brief moment to pray for B's soul. Thanks for listening.
