Reminds me of an episode of *Tales of the Unusual* starring Kimura Takuya, where an "eye" was also a key element. The main character, played by Kimura, is a despicable paparazzi who chases celebrities and exposes their private lives. One day, the protagonist notices an object shaped like an eye floating in mid-air. The eye just stares at him and doesn't do anything in particular, but it follows him around 24/7, driving him crazy with how unsettling it is. No one else can see the floating eye, and when he desperately tries to explain how creepy it is, people just start doubting his sanity instead. Mentally cornered and driven into a frenzy, the protagonist starts brandishing a knife out on the street to get rid of the eye that keeps watching him, and ends up stabbing and killing innocent bystanders one after another (my memory is a bit hazy around this part...) The protagonist collapses after being shot or something similar by police on the spot. He dies in a pool of blood, muttering, "The eye... The eye is watching..." The floating eye just keeps staring intently at the scene.
Suddenly the scene changes, and a documentary-style program begins. The monitor in the program shows the deceased Kimura, and against that backdrop, a man who appears to be the host says: "So, we have observed the actions of the perpetrator of that horrific random stabbing incident from [year] over the course of several weeks, but his motive remains unknown." In other words, the eye that had been staring at Kimura was actually a TV camera sent from the future for a program aimed at unraveling the mystery of a major historical incident.
Sorry, this is the end. The host comments with a laugh: "What? Are you saying it's our fault? No way! We took the utmost care to film without affecting the subject (my memory is a bit hazy here too, but basically he said something like 'it's not our fault')." It ends with a replay of Kimura's murmur, "The eye... The eye is watching..." The protagonist was a really despicable guy, so you could call it karma, but honestly, if it weren't for this future TV show, the protagonist wouldn't have gone on a random stabbing spree. The fact that the production crew had zero awareness of that (and never would) left a really terrible aftertaste.
