This is a story inspired by the TV show "Tales of the Unusual." The protagonist is an unsuccessful salaryman, played by Cocorico's Tanaka. One day, Tanaka notices a strange pattern: whenever he is forced to make a choice, picking the option he thinks is good leads to a bad outcome, while picking the option he thinks is bad leads to a good outcome.
Using this to his advantage, he intentionally chooses bad ideas and unpopular projects, leading to rapid promotions. Eventually, the company president even offers him his daughter's hand in marriage along with a promotion to head of an overseas branch.
However, Tanaka has a long-time girlfriend. Although he loves her, for the sake of his own success, Tanaka chooses the option that feels wrong to him: marrying the president's daughter.
On the day he is set to leave Japan, while heading to the airport, he hears a news report on the car radio that his girlfriend has been involved in an accident and is unconscious.
Before him are two diverging roads: one leading to the airport, and one leading to the hospital. After agonizing over the decision, Tanaka decides to trust his rule and takes the road leading to the hospital.
The scene shifts to the hospital. His girlfriend wakes up and smiles, saying, "I knew you would come." However, the person standing there is not Tanaka, but his friend and her coworker. "I finally realized. You are the precious person in my life." The two look into each other's eyes. The story ends with a shot of Tanaka speeding down the road in his car toward the hospital, shouting, "[Girlfriend's Name], just wait for me!"
