This happened during a club training camp when we were sharing a room with kids from another school. One of the guys suddenly started having a nightmare, thrashing around on his futon. We tried to wake him up, but he wouldn't budge at all, just kept tossing and turning, moaning in his sleep. While the rest of us who were awake were discussing what to do, this weird guy who had been sleeping until then suddenly woke up. He crawled on all fours over his futon until he got close to the guy having the nightmare. He raised his index and middle fingers and swept them across the sleeping guy once, as if cutting something. Then, he made a scissors shape with his fingers and made a few snipping gestures over the guy's body. Strangely enough, the guy who had been suffering in his sleep suddenly calmed right down. The weird guy sleepily crawled back to his own futon and went right back to sleep. Feeling uneasy, we decided to wake the guy up who had been having the nightmare. When we asked him about it, he said, "It was awful... I was somewhere in the middle of the ocean, and all these white things were wrapping all around me. I should've been able to swim, but they just kept tangling me up. I couldn't breathe, and I was struggling desperately when suddenly a knife and scissors appeared from my pocket, and I was saved after cutting away those white things..." The next morning, when we asked the weird guy about it, he only said, "Oh... it's a spell I learned from my grandma." In the end, the training camp ended without any incidents, but it was a deeply unsettling experience.
That's a "severing" ritual passed down in certain regions. It's an old superstition where you cut ties with negative things by making a "cutting" gesture. The paranormal board really is a treasure trove of folklore information!
