You might not believe this, but hear me out. My mom was born without the pinky finger on her left hand. Usually, if someone loses a finger in an accident, an X-ray will show the bone stopping halfway, but for her, it's as if that part of her was never there to begin with. At a glance, it doesn't look unnatural, and it never caused her any trouble in daily life. But here's where it gets weird!
My mom is from Shikoku, and apparently, people over there treated her like a "child of god" and doted on her. When I was in elementary school, I was a kid who was always losing things. One day, I lost my bicycle key and was crying while looking for it, when a finger reached out from under the refrigerator. When I tried to touch it, it quickly darted back under the fridge, and when I peeked into the gap, my key was lying right there.
Another time, right after we moved to Ishikawa, I got lost and couldn't find my way home. Just as I was about to burst into tears again, a finger poked out smoothly from a telephone pole. I followed the direction of the finger, came out onto a street I knew, and managed to make it home.
When I got back, I was too embarrassed to say I'd gotten lost, so I kept quiet. But then my mom said, "You need to learn the way home already..." To be honest, I couldn't help thinking it was creepy. Sorry, Mom. I never got a good look at the finger, so I don't know for sure if it was a pinky or not.
