In Junji Ito's manga "Remina," a young girl named Remina has a father who is an astronomer. He discovers a new planet and names it "Remina" after his daughter, which instantly makes her famous. However, the planet Remina has several bizarre characteristics. Before long, it becomes clear that Planet Remina is hurtling toward Earth at an incredible speed. Observations reveal that it is a planet-devouring entity—nothing is left behind in the space it passes through. Planet Remina enters the solar system, and Jupiter is obliterated. Humanity falls into deep panic. Someone starts the rumor that "the girl Remina is calling Planet Remina toward us," and a massive crowd believes it. "Kill Remina!" Remina becomes hunted by a violent mob. Her father is brutally murdered by the mob, and a man who tried to protect her (whom she had feelings for) is also killed. Remina is finally captured, but her life is saved by a homeless man she happens to encounter. Planet Remina eventually devours the moon and arrives right on Earth's doorstep. Amidst the cataclysm brought by the planet, the homeless man flees with Remina, gathering a couple they happen to see and two lost children along the way. They manage to take refuge in a wealthy tycoon's underground shelter (the homeless man is seriously a capable guy). Earth is smashed to pieces and devoured by Planet Remina. Miraculously, the shelter where Remina and the others took refuge escapes destruction and drifts aimlessly through outer space. The boyfriend of the couple worries about what they will do next, but the homeless man just smiles optimistically, saying, "Such an incredible thing happened. Maybe another miracle will happen and we'll be saved." Remina looks out at the vastness of space through a glass window, shedding tears as she thinks of her father and the man she loved. Honestly, the scale was so huge I didn't even know what to make of it.
