An experience told by my late grandfather, from before the war. Right after graduating from university, he got a job at a railway company on the Asian continent. Whether it was near Chongqing or somewhere else, it happened over there.
One day, a massive locust swarm broke out near the town where my grandfather was living. Apparently, every few years the region was struck by this kind of abnormal outbreak. The huge swarms of locusts devoured every single crop in the fields, leading to food shortages and famine.
Eventually, the massive swarm reached the town where my grandfather lived. All he could do was shut every window in the house to keep the locusts out and simply wait for them to pass. There was nothing else he could do—he had no choice but to just stare at the locusts through the glass.
Amidst the swarm, my grandfather spotted something strange. It was an abnormally large locust. Normally, the size of a locust is nothing to speak of; even a big one is only a few centimeters long. But this locust was on a completely different scale. A giant locust, about the size of a puppy, was flying by. Furthermore, its body was a blazing red. My grandfather noticed this giant locust because of its color rather than its size.
Later on, my grandfather found out that a colleague of his had also seen that locust. What's more, the colleague had seen multiple of them flying together in a flock. Unable to believe what they had seen, my grandfather and his colleague did all sorts of research, but naturally, no records mentioned any such creature. They even asked the local Chinese residents. While some people had seen similar things within the swarm, no one could explain what they actually were.
