This is a story about a TV program I saw about 15 years ago. My memory is pretty hazy and I don't remember all the details, but the plot went something like this.
An older woman living in an apartment building was throwing away garbage in the building's incinerator. By some mishap, she dropped her ring inside. It seemed to have fallen quite far back, so she leaned deeply into the incinerator to search for it. Suddenly, a young girl appeared from behind her, shoved her inside, and closed the incinerator door. Without a moment's hesitation, the girl pressed the burn button and burned the woman to death. (There was even a visual depiction of the woman being burned during this scene.)
This incident immediately became a criminal case, but since no one saw the girl at the scene, the police struggled in their search for the culprit. Meanwhile, in the girl's household (which was in the same apartment building as the victim), the girl's mother also learned about the incident. The girl went about playing as if nothing had happened. One day, the mother found a drawing made by the girl depicting a woman inside flames. When the mother asked her about the drawing, the girl innocently replied, "You know, this is a picture of the lady getting burned." After that, the mother kept finding more and more drawings of fires.
Gradually, the mother began to suspect that her daughter might be the one who burned the woman to death in the incinerator. Every day, she lived in fear of the police closing in. Eventually, the police figured out that the girl had killed the woman (I forgot how they found out). However, the police did not arrest the girl. Instead, the girl and her mother were overjoyed that they managed to escape arrest.
That was the story. I was only about seven years old at the time, so some parts might be mistaken, but that was the gist of it. It left such an unsettling aftertaste that I still think about it often. What on earth was this drama trying to convey? Was it the foolishness of juvenile law? Or did it want to portray the feelings of a mother and her familial love despite having a murderer for a daughter? I don't really know, but it was a thoroughly sickening story. Has anyone else ever seen this drama?
