The Old Man I Pass By No Matter Where I Go

This is a story told to me by a friend (or rather, an ongoing experience of theirs), though I couldn't tell whether it was actually dangerous or harmless. Since this is the occult board, I thought someone here might have had a similar experience, so I decided to post it.

I heard this today: my friend has "an old man they pass by no matter where they go." He's a complete stranger, but they often cross paths with him whether they are in Tokyo or Kyoto, for instance. This has been happening ever since they can remember up to the present day. When they were a child, they just thought, "Huh? I know that guy." Recently, though, they've started to wonder, "Could this be something dangerous?"

He doesn't seem like a ghost, and he doesn't even look at them. He's just someone they cross paths with. Still, my friend said, "Calling out to him or turning around to look might be a really bad idea." I wonder what on earth this is.

I'm the one who posted earlier. It seems his clothes aren't the same every time, which is perhaps why he's different from a ghost. I think I asked my friend if the old man was aging along with them, but what did they say again? However, since they've been able to recognize him as the exact same person from childhood all the way to age 20, there probably hasn't been much change.

I even thought maybe they were soulmates... but when you're a little kid, you don't usually leave your hometown. Back then, they thought he was just a neighbor because they kept passing him in their town. The creepy part is that even when they go far away on a trip, they still cross paths with him (or is he following them?).

Q: "Do you get a sense of relief or anything like that from him?" A: "None." Q: "Does he give off a dangerous vibe?" A: "Not really." Q: "Have you ever turned around to check?" (Since if he's a living person, you should still be able to see him walking away.) A: "I just feel like there's something I shouldn't look at." Q: "Conclusion: Is he not a living human?" A: "...Maybe? Who knows."

We couldn't really figure it out. We just laughed it off, concluding it must be a stalker, and left it at that.
