Hirano was a dull, unremarkable middle-aged salaryman. At work, his section chief yelled at him constantly, and his colleagues whispered behind his back, calling him boring and slow. Even for Hirano, however, there was one secret pleasure: the "Revenge Club." It was a system where, instead of exacting revenge yourself, someone else would carry it out for you. You would write down the name of the person you wanted revenge on and the nature of your grudge, then submit it to the club. Based on the list, the club would issue a proxy revenge directive to another member, who would then carry it out. Later, the requesting member would be notified of the results. Members held both a request slot and a corresponding obligation to act as a proxy. Naturally, Hirano also bore the obligation to carry out revenge for others, but because the club instructed him on both the content and the method, he could execute his duties without a single worry. Furthermore, a camera crew would film the revenge in action, and afterward, members could enjoy watching the footage at a screening party—complete with after-sales service. Hirano used this to relieve his stress, and he gradually became obsessed. Yet the more obsessed he got, the more trivial daily occurrences turned into targets for revenge. As his requests for revenge increased, so did his obligations to carry them out. Burdened by a workload of proxy revenge that pushed him to his limits, he began to neglect his actual job, earning daily scoldings from his section chief. Then one day, he received a proxy revenge directive from the club. The target was... his section chief. "Invite him out for drinks, get him completely drunk, and after you part ways, ambush him on his way home and strike him once in the back of the head." Coincidentally, the section chief invited Hirano out for drinks. Hirano tried his best to get the chief drunk, but the chief kept pushing drinks on him as well, and Hirano ended up consuming a massive amount of alcohol. Both of them completely hammered, they finally parted ways. Hirano picked up a piece of lumber from the roadside and followed after the chief. What he saw there was the section chief, holding a concrete block, following him. After a moment of silence, the two let out strange cries and lunged at each other. Around the same time, a mistake was being reported at the club: "We accidentally issued the same revenge directive to both targets."
Covered in blood from the brutal fistfight, Hirano finally realized. The chief's daily scoldings, his mistakes at work, the minor troubles at home—every little misfortune that happened around him was someone else's revenge... If a club like this existed, anyone would join... Everyone... everyone wanted revenge on someone... In a room where the club members roared with laughter, watching this entire ordeal play out on screen, sat his wife, his son, his colleagues, his neighbors—the very people Hirano had exacted revenge on until now... "Revenge on someone, for everyone!" "Revenge on someone, for everyone!" "Revenge on someone, for everyone!" "Revenge on someone, for everyone!" In a room emptied of everyone else, Tamori stops the projector. "The trivial misfortunes happening all around you might just be the work of the Revenge Club. You're the only one left... who hasn't joined."
