Trapped

A woman is trapped inside a phone booth and calls for help, but being on a lonely country road, hardly anyone passes by. She can't use a phone card, and she can't get through to 110 (the emergency police number). She spent her last coins buying a juice earlier. Just as she is at her wit's end, she notices a 10-yen coin lying on the roadside. She reaches out through the gap in the phone booth, but her fingertips fall just short of it. Just then, a boy of about four years old appears and stares intently at the coin on the ground. The woman begs him to pick it up and give it to her, but the boy remains silent. Suddenly, the voice of an ice pop vendor is heard. Drawn to the voice, the boy is told by the woman, "You can't buy anything with just 10 yen, you know," but the boy already has two 10-yen coins clutched in his hand. An ice pop costs 30 yen. The boy runs off toward the ice pop vendor. High school baseball team members and a farmer riding a tractor pass by, but no one notices that she is trapped. The merciless direct sunlight beats down. Time simply ticks away in the suffocating heat... Finally, night falls. Her boyfriend finally arrives to pick her up. The door that wouldn't budge no matter how much she pushed or pulled opens effortlessly when the boyfriend opens it. (Apparently, it opens easily from the outside.) But in the end, the two of them end up trapped together instead. Finally, the protagonist screams out once more: "This is why I hate the countryside!"
