Sorry if this has already been posted, but the survival movie "Jungle," based on a true story, had a really unsatisfying and nagging ending. Just to clarify beforehand, this isn't the usual type of disturbing twist where the main character dies—the protagonist actually makes it back safely. The main character, Yossi, is traveling the world looking for excitement. He goes to Bolivia with his friends Kevin and Marcus, where they are approached by a stranger named Karl. Karl tells them about an indigenous tribe in an unexplored part of the jungle and invites them to come along as their guide. The other two friends are reluctant, thinking it's too dangerous to follow a total stranger, but Yossi is all in. In the end, guided by Karl, they all head into the jungle. Things go smoothly at first, but bad weather forces them to turn back. However, due to Marcus's injury and mounting disagreements, the atmosphere sours completely. Eventually, Yossi and Kevin decide to build a raft and go down the river, while Karl and Marcus plan to walk out of the jungle as originally intended. From this point on, the story follows Yossi's perspective. Their raft gets stuck on a rock in the middle of the river and is smashed to pieces, causing the two of them to be separated by the current. This marks the beginning of Yossi's grueling survival ordeal. Because it's based on a true story, it just depicts the harsh, relentless cruelty of nature over and over again, which gets pretty depressing (parasites, eating raw baby birds, hallucinations, etc.). I really recommend watching it if you're interested. Meanwhile, Kevin was swept down the river and luckily rescued by villagers. He asks the villagers to help continue the search, and just in the nick of time, they spot Yossi by the riverbank, allowing the two of them to return home safely. That's the main plot. In the end, they learn that Karl and Marcus—who were supposed to have walked back—still haven't returned. They continue searching, but the two are never found. Later, it turns out that Karl, the man who lured the three of them, was actually a wanted fugitive fleeing the authorities, and that his pitch about an indigenous tribe deep in the jungle was a complete lie. Why did he approach the three of them? Why did he trick them into going into the jungle? The reasons remain unknown. Whenever food got low, Karl used his hunting skills to catch wild animals and share them with the group, and he even gave Marcus first aid for his injury, genuinely trying to guide them to their destination. It didn't look like he had any intention of robbing or murdering them for money. In the end, did Karl and Marcus both get lost and die? Or did Karl kill Marcus because his injury made him dead weight, and then manage to escape on his own? The credits roll while the truth remains completely unknown. After a heartwarming reunion, text on the screen calmly outlines the aftermath, and since it's based on a true story, no answers or closure are provided. It hits you out of nowhere with a lingering sense of unease, which personally left a really bad taste in my mouth.
