*Spoiler warning for "Shin Ultraman"*
It's probably just a carpet-bombing promotional campaign, but I'll ruin the ending for myself anyway. Spoiler warning. In the original series, the original Ultraman accidentally kills the human protagonist in the first episode, fuses with him to save him, but is ultimately defeated by the monster Zetton in the final episode and dies as well. However, Zoffy, who came from their home planet, had two spare lives in addition to his own (*you lose if you think too deeply about this part*), so both Ultraman and the protagonist were resurrected and separated. In "Shin", however, Ultraman (referred to hereafter by his real name in the Shin version, "Lipi-ah", to distinguish him from the original) doesn't die, but he comes dangerously close to being blown away into another dimension along with Zetton and disappearing. Since the "Shin" version doesn't seem to have the concept of spare lives, even when he is saved by "Zohfy", he cannot choose the ending where both Lipi-ah and the human protagonist are kept alive and separated. He is forced to choose between two options: leaving the protagonist to die and returning to his home planet, or giving his own life to the protagonist and dying. And Lipi-ah, who had "come to love humans," chose the latter without hesitation and vanished...
Does that mean that in the Ultraman world, which has an overwhelmingly large number of crossovers compared to other tokusatsu shows, "Ultraman Lipi-ah" will never have the opportunity to appear alongside other Ultramans in the future... If they casually bring him back in a sequel, it would completely ruin it, wouldn't it...
