Walking down a dark street at night, a woman hears footsteps closing in behind her. When she turns around, a man is chasing her. He slashes her eyes with a knife, and then turns the blade toward his own eyes...
Narumi is reading the morning paper while eating breakfast. An article catches her eye about a murder committed by a teaching assistant from the psychology laboratory at Toto University, where Narumi is a professor.
Narumi is having lunch with one of her students, Mayumi. Naturally, the conversation turns to the murder case. Then, Mayumi's friend Yuki arrives, bringing a videotape and saying, "I got that tape dubbed for you." After Yuki leaves, Narumi looks at the label of the video Mayumi received and sees the words "VIDEO DRUG" written on it. "Apparently, it's rumored to be an amazing video," Mayumi says, sparking Narumi's curiosity.
That night, Mayumi witnesses her boyfriend, Takashi, with another woman. Furious, she decides to watch the video she just got. Mayumi stares intently at the screen as a checkered pattern swells and undulates. Before she knows it, she is transfixed by it... Later, Mayumi visits Takashi's apartment and drives an ice pick into his eyes...
Narumi rushes to the hospital. There she finds Yuki keeping watch, and Mayumi lying in bed with her eyes covered in bandages. According to Detective Matsui, who is also at the hospital: "She has no idea what she's done... She just keeps saying she heard a voice telling her to 'Kill.'" "Whose voice?" "That's... what we don't know." "The perpetrator of the previous case said the exact same thing." Narumi and the two detectives tilt their heads in confusion, unable to make sense of it.
After that, numerous similar incidents continue to occur. In every case, the perpetrator tries to take their own life after killing the victim.
With the detectives' permission, Narumi stays behind in her lab alone to analyze "VIDEO DRUG." She soon discovers that all the tapes involved in the incidents are copies—they have been dubbed. As she analyzes them further, she detects a faint audio signal that is normally imperceptible: "KI"..."LL"... Comparing the audio data with the video's visual data, she finds a match. "This is terrible, I have to make this public immediately!" However, she suddenly finds herself staring fixedly at the images on the screen...
Narumi immediately appears on a live television broadcast. "The culprit behind this series of incidents is this 'VIDEO DRUG.' Anyone who watches this tape is driven to commit the act they fear the most. To show you what happens, please take a look at the footage from this video first..." The dubbed tape begins to play right then and there. The detectives freeze in front of the TV. "...Oh no!!" Realizing what she is about to do, a detective rushes to the phone. Meanwhile, a young detective continues staring blankly at the screen. "Hello... Listen, stop the broadcast immediately! It's the program with that woman Narumi from Toto University! Hurry up and stop the broadcast! Something terrible is going to happen! Hey, are you listening to me?!" the detective screams into the receiver. When he turns around, the barrel of the young detective's gun is pointing right at him... The detective collapses. And the footage of "VIDEO DRUG" continues to play on the screen...
